Sepia Scenes of the Lune

Sunderland Point and Glasson Dock provide the inspiration for an evocative photographic exhibition in our gallery this August.

Mouth of the Lune is the work of Kendal-based photographer Colin Reynolds who has used alternative photographic techniques to create images of the boundary between land and sea.

Colin’s photographs, which are on display until August 30, are in sepia as a reaction to the instant digital take on the world that we get today.

“It is a slower more meditative process that I felt matched my own feelings when visiting this area,” said Colin. “Also the images are created by exposure to sunlight so there is always an element of serendipity which I felt mimicked the element of tidal flow.”

“Some images may be obvious for people who know the area but I hope that I have found a few that will make people take a step back and think a little bit more about the area.”

Colin has been interested in photography since he was eight and ran the school photography club. Since 2007 he has attended courses with photographers he admires and two years ago he opened his own studio/gallery in Kendal.

He has exhibited throughout Cumbria and currently has another exhibition of Seascapes at Farfield Mill in Sedbergh.

Mouth of the Lune can be viewed in the gallery during normal Dukes opening hours. If you are making a special trip to see it, please call our Box Office as sometimes the gallery is used for other activities.
