Over 12 week terms, groups work with professional theatre facilitators to develop skills in performing arts, team work, communication and creative expression. We also have Young Writers, Young Ambassadors and Invitational programmes.

Young Writers

This January, we at the Dukes are launching our first ever Young Writers programme and we’re looking for the next generation of budding playwrights and storytellers to join.

Over the course of twelve weeks, participants will receive workshops from professional playwrights, directors and other creative professionals; exploring the principles of scriptwriting as well as discussing work by a wide variety of playwrights.

Each young person will develop their own short play throughout the term and have the option of hearing their script performed in a rehearsed reading to an audience.

To be eligible for the Dukes Young Writers programme you need to be aged 16+, the cost of the programme is £60 and the group will meet weekly, each Monday from 5pm – 7pm.

PLAYMAKERS A

An introductory course for young people interested in making new friends, improving in confidence and trying out new creative skills.  Throughout the year, each young person has the chance to perform in one of the Dukes professional spaces.

A fun filled week of performance, games and fun for young people aged 6 – 10 during the half term holidays.  It’s a brilliant way for young people to learn new skills, make new friends and learn from a professional director.  Each week will culminate in a sharing event on the Friday afternoon.

Monday – Friday 10am–4pm
Summer Half Term (29 May – 2 June 2017)
£100 per week

An adaptable course suited to both absolute beginners and the more experienced. Over three terms, participants will be introduced  to Mime, Melodrama, Puppetry, Commedia Del Arte, Clowning and Creative Writing.  All participants will have the opportunity to perform in a devised piece of theatre in one of the Dukes three professional performance spaces.

Second Person Narrative

SENIOR YOUTH THEATRE

For aspiring creatives, those interested in exploring the mechanics of performance and those wishing to have fun.  The Senior Youth Theatre course focusses heavily on physical performance and working as an ensemble.  The groups’ directors will give participants experience in Puppetry, Clowning, Creative Writing, Physicality, Melodrama, Commedia Del Arte, Devising and Improvisation.  The group will have the chance to perform a devised piece of theatre in one of the Dukes Performance spaces.

The flagship programmes for aspiring theatre makers and performers.  The Dukes Young Actors are equipped with necessary tools to prepare them for further artistic education and careers within the arts.

Young Actors and the Text: A skills and performance programme working towards a production of a classic text, directed by a leading professional.
