How do we say goodbye? What do we mean when we say, ‘Hello’?
This practical workshop will focus on writing for the stage and, in particular, on writing dramatic dialogue with impact. Participants will be led through a series of fun writing exercises to explore and script real and imagined moments of departure and arrival.
The workshop will be run by award-winning playwright and poet, Mary Cooper, and writer and journalist, MW Sun. Mary and MW Sun have written bilingual plays together and will encourage participants to experiment with writing in mother tongue as well as in English.
Mary Cooper has written more than 30 commissioned plays for theatre companies throughout the UK as well as writing for radio and screen. MW Sun, who speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and English, has worked in journalism and PR in London, Hong Kong, New York, and Singapore, and written for Yellow Earth Theatre Company. She is currently writing her first novel and a commissioned bilingual play for Manchester Confucius Institute.
