Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds presents

This delightful adaptation of Jane Austen’s Gothic comedy is witty, fast moving and stylish.

Catherine Morland loves a good novel and the more ‘horrid’ it is the better. At 17, she is taken by her aunt to Bath where she encounters the social whirl denied her at home. When Catherine accepts an invitation to the Tilney’s country seat at Northanger Abbey, lurid images from her favourite gothic novel, Mysteries of Udolpho, threaten to overwhelm her. However, all misunderstandings are eventually resolved and, as in all the best Jane Austen novels, the young heroine finally gets her man…

“sparkling and witty” The Stage

“a most light-hearted and fast moving production with never a dull moment” Eastern Daily Press

“I sincerely hope that Austen might have clapped her little hands in delight, for Tim Luscombe’s adaptation is a delight from beginning to end.” Yorkshire Post

Directed by Karen Simpson
Adapted for the stage by Tim Luscombe, based on the novel by Jane Austen

There will be a post show talk-back with the cast after the performance on Tuesday 9 May.
