Kit Downes is a BBC Jazz Award winning, Mercury Music Award nominated, solo recording artist who has toured the world with groups such as Squarepusher, Troyka and Nostalgia 77.

One of the UK’s outstanding jazz talents on both piano and organ, Kit’s solo performance in Lancaster Town Hall’s Ashton Hall will showcase the unique sounds and colours of the heritage pipe organ, installed in 1909 with oak surround by Gillows of Lancaster.

Downes brings a new and highly personal approach to an instrument steeped in history and tradition, while exploring its sonic possibilities and idiosyncrasies in improvisations and compositions both melodic and textural.

This will be a rare chance to see Kit performing this outstanding work.

Support is from Täpp, an exciting violin and cello looping duo from Manchester.

“Enticingly strange and wonderful sounds, so odd you can hardly believe it’s an organ making them.. a lightening musical intelligence”  The Telegraph

“It testifies to his world-class stature” The Guardian

This event is at Ashton Hall, Lancaster Town Hall.
