The Dukes and Lancaster Arts present
An imitating the dog production
By Joseph Conrad
Acclaimed theatre makers imitating the dog return to The Dukes’ stage with Joseph Conrad’s extraordinarily influential novel, Heart of Darkness.
Reimagined for the 21st Century, imitating the dog transform Joseph Conrad’s classic into a graphic novel style road movie before your very eyes. Using a plethora of green screen technology, audio and live actors, the show brings sensory overload to audiences as they follow Marlow, an African woman, on her journey across a post-apocalyptic Europe, searching out the heart of darkness.
A tale of lies and brutal greed, it is a voyage into the perilous unknown. Featuring footage from Apocalypse Now, contrasted with real-life news and documentary images, this is a world where cinema and theatre collide, creating a show like no other.
The heart of darkness must be found. The story is impossible to tell, but it must be told.
Think Apocalypse Now meets The Road meets Double Indemnity.
“You may think you know this story, but this version, especially the ending, grips you anew” The Times
“…conceptually breath-taking” The Stage
Heart of Darkness is co-produced with Marche Teatro (Italy) and Cast. Supported by Arts Council England, Lancaster Arts at Lancaster University and Theatre by the Lake.
